The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has launched the ninth edition of the Latin America and Caribbean Days international conference (LAC Days), focusing on political dialogue, as well as economic, scientific and logistical integration.

Today, the Government took note of the Information on the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan and examined the Report on the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan before submitting the sixth payment request.

The European Commission today welcomed the fifth proposal to amend the Slovenian Recovery and Resilience Plan. The amendment to the plan also needs to be approved by the Council of the European Union.

During today’s session, the Slovenian Government allocated its contributions for 2026 to various international organisations, funds and other bodies.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia took note of the information on energy supply at today’s session and adopted the Resilience Strategy of the Republic of Slovenia until 2030.

The National Security Council was presented with reports by the Minister of the Environment, Climate and Energy, Bojan Kumer, and the Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport, Matjaž Han. The reports addressed the current situation in the energy sector in Slovenia and in the international environment, including energy security, security of supply and the impacts on the economy.

The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the renovation of the Rotovž Town Hall in Maribor. The European Regional Development Fund contribution stands at €4.45 million.

The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the G14 Otiški Vrh bridge national cycling route. The project, worth €1.56 million, will receive a Cohesion Fund contribution of over €900 thousand.

The foreign ministers of Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Iceland, Singapore, Slovenia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of the so-called Green Group, are issuing a joint statement and appeal on the occasion of World Water Day. This year it focuses on gender equality. As stated in the introduction, a recent report from the UN University's Institute for Water, Environment and Health warns that the world has reached a state of water bankruptcy.

Since the onset of tensions in global energy markets, the Government has been closely monitoring developments and has taken measures to ensure that fuel storage facilities remain adequately stocked. However, developments over the past two days have required the Government to intervene more directly in the logistics infrastructure. The Government has therefore adopted measures to enable fuel distributors to resupply service stations more efficiently.

The Josephine Valencic Scholarship for Voice is intended to encourage the study of vocal music among young people of Slovenian heritage. The fund covers part of the cost of studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM).

Joško Kadivnik, the Director of SOVA (Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency), today presented to the members of the National Security Council Secretariat’s operational group a full account of events that took place between 10 and 11 December 2025, along with material evidence of connections of three representatives of the private intelligence corporation Black Cube (Giora Eiland, Liron Tzur and Dan Zorella) to the visit at Trstenjakova ulica 8 in Ljubljana, where the SDS party has its headquarters.

A recent visit to Denmark by a delegation from the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce Legal Department offered valuable insights into how strong cooperation between stakeholders can support a modern, adaptable labour market. The visit was part of the Labour Law Compass on Flexible Forms of Employment and Social Dialogue project and focused on understanding approaches that foster both economic competitiveness and social stability.

February was marked by field visits of works carried out on watercourses, the completion of works of a major flood protection project and ongoing digitalization efforts to improve the accessibility of data on watercourse works for the public.

The Ministry of Public Administration today hosted a delegation from the European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE), an organisation that brings together European researchers specialising in electoral integrity.

The State Secretary for National and International Security in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Vojko Volk, summarised the findings of today's meeting of the National Security Council Secretariat (SSNAV), which he convened at the proposal of the Prime Minister.

The Government will further reduce duties, thus mitigating the increase in the prices of petroleum products for the next 14-day period, as such an increase cannot be avoided due to the conflict in the Middle East. Without this intervention, there would be a price increase of approximately 26 cents per litre for diesel and fuel oil, and a price increase of approximately 18 cents per litre for petrol.

During the General Affairs Council discussion on the draft conclusions for the March European Council and the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), State Secretary Neva Grašič welcomed the leaders’ plan to focus on the EU’s competitiveness and strategic autonomy, which is particularly important in the context of the heightened security situation in the Middle East, the consequences of which are already being felt in Europe.

We have just completed one of the most challenging diplomatic operations, safely bringing home nearly a thousand Slovenian citizens from the Middle East war zone.

Prime Minister Robert Golob today visited the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, where he officially opened an energy-refurbished and revitalised section of the first eighth of the main hospital building. The refurbished premises on the eighth floor form part of the Department of Nephrology within the Internal Medicine Clinic.

The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Aligning vocational education and training with labour market needs 2025-2029. The project will receive a good €12 million of European Social Fund Plus support.

At the Foreign Affairs Council, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon emphasised that other crises must not divert attention from Ukraine. This was the third meeting of EU foreign ministers this month, two of which were convened on an emergency basis in response to the escalating situation in the Middle East. Ministers continued their discussion on the EU’s response to the ongoing violence in the region, noting with concern that violence continues to replace diplomacy.

The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for a call for proposals to cofinance the construction of open ultra-high-capacity fixed broadband networks and the upgrade of existing fixed networks GOŠO 7. The European Regional Development Fund contribution stands at €18 million.

State Secretary Neva Grašič visited Moldova at the invitation of Cristina Gherasimov, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Chief Negotiator for EU accession of the Republic of Moldova. The talks focused on Moldova’s rapprochement with the EU and its reform efforts within the negotiation process. Prime Minister Robert Golob, together with the Minister of Infrastructure, Alenka Bratušek, attended the ceremony marking the successful completion of works on junctions B – Škalsko jezero and H – Konovo on the expressway from Velenje to Koroška and the official handover of the first junction on the northern part of the third development axis (Konovo) to traffic.

At today’s session, the Government adopted the Strategy for the Management and Development of Healthcare and Allied Professionals in the Healthcare System 2026–2036, agreed to an extraordinary adjustment of pensions of one per cent and issued two ordinances: the Ordinance on financial assistance to family farms following the transfer of agricultural holdings, and the Ordinance on the co-financing of vaccination against bluetongue disease.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food today presented details on the use of the Slovenian flag on agricultural products and food introduced by the new Food Act. In a world of crowded shelves and unclear labels, the use of the Slovenian flag will mark the distinction between what is merely packaged in Slovenia and what is truly created, reared, grown and processed in Slovenia.

We celebrated the Slovenian Maritime Day 2026 on Friday, March 6 2026, with the event "The Pulse of the Sea." The event took place at the new Koper Passenger Terminal, where the attendees were addressed by the Minister of Infrastructure, Alenka Bratušek, M.A., the Chairwoman of the Management Board of Luka Koper, Nevenka Kržan, and the Director of the Maritime Administration, Jadran Klinec.

The 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) is taking place in New York from 9 to 19 March 2026. Slovenia is represented by a delegation led by the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Samuel Žbogar.

Prime Minister Robert Golob attended an event to mark International Women's Day. Organised by the Ljubljana City Committee of the Union of the Associations for the Values of the National Liberation Movement of Slovenia (ZZB NOB), the event was held under the patronage of Zoran Janković, the Mayor of Ljubljana. In his keynote address, Prime Minister Golob emphasised the importance of freedom and security — values that exemplify the challenges women have faced throughout history.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs continues to provide consular assistance to Slovenian citizens. Those who are unable to return from otherwise safe destinations due to air traffic disruption in the Middle East are advised to seek alternative routes home with the assistance of their airline ticket providers.

2026 marks the final year of implementing the measures under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). Many of the measures which have been introduced in Slovenia with the support of European Recovery and Resilience Facility – NextGenerationEU funds have already been successfully completed. In this ongoing publication series entitled Together Towards the Goal, we are presenting today the results of measures to make Slovenia's forests stronger and more diverse.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has withdrawn its two diplomatic staff members from Tehran, capital of Iran. The ambassador and a diplomat are now safe in Azerbaijan, from where they will be returning to Slovenia.

We would like to inform Slovenian citizens who are currently stranded in the Middle East and the Gulf that airspace is gradually reopening. Consequently, an increasing number of commercial flights are available for those wishing to return home. However, the Ministry remains available to provide consular assistance.

With the arrival of two aircraft from Riyadh this evening, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia has completed the evacuation of Slovenian citizens who were stranded in the crisis area in the Middle East due to the ongoing war.

Prime Minister Robert Golob began the second part of the Government’s visit to the Osrednjaslovenska region with a visit to the new residential neighbourhood in Zelena jama in Ljubljana, which provides 87 public rental apartments in four buildings, along with a shared communal area and landscaped park space.

At today's session, the Government adopted the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence until 2030, the Strategy for Coherent Regional Development, and the Slovenian Startup Strategy to support the development of innovative companies. It also reviewed the Spring Forecast of Economic Trends 2026.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia approved the text of draft Resolution on Slovenia's Regional Development Strategy 2026-2050 at its regular session on 5 March 2026 and submitted it to the National Assembly for discussion and adoption.

The claim, cited by some Croatian and Slovenian media outlets, that a US military drone crossed the path of an aircraft carrying evacuated Slovenian citizens on its way from Oman back to Slovenia is not true.

To help Slovenian citizens in the Middle East, Slovenia has arranged two extra repatriation flights with FlyDubai from the United Arab Emirates. We have now begun contacting citizens in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

A new Cooperation Agreement between the Visegrad Patent Institute and the Slovenian Intellectual Property Office on Search Cooperation has been signed. The Agreement enables patent applicants in Slovenia to obtain a search report accompanied by a written opinion for national patent applications, in accordance with the standards applied under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Škocjan Caves' inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning (MNVP) organised a presentation of achievements and challenges in nature conservation in cooperation with the Škocjan Caves Regional Park. Yesterday in Murska Sobota, the Minister of Culture, Asta Vrečko, ceremonially opened the European Museum of Roma Culture and History, which has begun operating at a new, more prominent location on Ulica Štefana Kovača.

Today, the European Commission issued a positive preliminary assessment of Slovenia’s fifth payment request for funding under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) of NextGenerationEU. Slovenia is expected to receive the payment next month, estimated at €230 million. Following the disbursement, the utilisation of the funds available to Slovenia under the Facility will exceed 80%.

At an informal video conference of EU foreign affairs ministers, Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon warned of the risk of a wider regional conflict and called for immediate de-escalation and restraint. She stressed that the people of Iran must be free to determine their own future.

Slovenia is following with concern reports of the Israeli-U.S. strike on Iran. We call on all parties involved to immediately de-escalate tensions, exercise restraint, and fully respect international law and the UN Charter. Further escalation could have serious consequences for regional and international security.

Consular operations at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Tehran are temporarily limited to providing essential consular services in support of Slovenian citizens.

As part of preparations for the spring meeting of the European Council, Prime Minister Robert Golob is today on a working visit to France, where he met with President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning has established a clear, transparent and coordinated protocol for gathering information and responding to emergencies in which the health and safety of individuals are directly threatened by large carnivores. Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon hosted Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu in Ljubljana. They reviewed bilateral relations and discussed the future of the EU, including enlargement to the Western Balkans and the East, as well as the war in Ukraine. “Slovenia and Romania are linked by a strong partnership within the EU and NATO,” emphasised Minister Fajon.

Following a high-level event attended by Matjaž Han (Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport) and Glenn Micallef (European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport), a Peer Learning Activity (PLA) seminar entitled Measuring the Impact of Sport: From Economic to Social Aspects was held in Lipica on 23 and 24 February 2026.

Minister Dr Aleksander Jevšek attended the meeting of the General Affairs Council that took place on 26 February in Brussels. EU Ministers responsible for Cohesion Policy exchanged views on the Cohesion Policy mid-term review to ensure the relevant findings and outcomes can support timely and effective delivery of Cohesion Policy in the next programming period.

On February 25, 2026, Ambassador Mirošič hosted the Chair of the United States Commission for the Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America - America250, Rosie Rios, at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Washington, D.C., with whom he signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between Slovenia and the United States in support of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States and 35 years of Slovenia's independence.

On February 24, 2026, Ambassador Iztok Mirošič attended the Transatlantic Gas Security Summit in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the Minister of Environment, Climate and Energy Bojan Kumer. The event was hosted by the Chair of the White House National Energy Dominance Council (NEDC), Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, and the Deputy Chairman, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.

A significant number of measures under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), implemented in Slovenia with support from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) under NextGenerationEU, have already been successfully completed. Today’s edition of the Together towards the goal series presents the results of the reform and investments aimed at strengthening preparedness and resilience to climate-driven disasters.

During the Government's visit to the Osrednjeslovenska region (Central Slovenia), Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon visited Jožef Stefan Institute's Reactor Centre and its TRIGA (Training, Research, Isotopes, General Atomic) reactor. The visit underscores Slovenia's commitment to the responsible development of nuclear science, the strengthening of international collaboration and the advancement of science and economic diplomacy.

As part of its regional visit, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia visited the municipalities of the Central Slovenia region (with the exception of the City Municipality of Ljubljana) and presented key development projects and investments in the region. As the economically strongest region in the country, strengthening its resilience and ensuring sustainable development remain among the Government’s priorities.

At the meeting of the General Affairs Council, held on the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, ministers and state secretaries responsible for European affairs started preparations for the European Council meeting in March. An exchange of views was held with the European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath, to mark today's launch of the Centre for Democratic Resilience.

Prime Minister Robert Golob began the Government’s visit to the Osrednjeslovenska region at the Grosuplje Care Home. Together with the Minister of a Solidarity-Based Future, Simon Maljevac, he met with the residents and the management of the home, which is marking its 42nd anniversary today.

Addressing the session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Minister Tanja Fajon drew attention to the serious threats confronting human rights in the 21st century. “We must stand up for human rights every day, especially in the world we live in today. They will only survive if we defend them and defending them today takes courage.”

Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine began four years ago and constitutes a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. “Slovenia condemns this aggression in the strongest and most unequivocal terms and stands by the people of Ukraine. We are committed to achieving a just and lasting peace, advocate respect for international law and demand accountability for the crimes committed,” emphasised Minister Fajon.

Foreign Ministers of 20 countries condemn in the strongest terms a series of recent Israeli decisions that introduce sweeping extensions to unlawful Israeli control over the West Bank.

Today, Lipica was the staging ground for a European debate on the future of sport. Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport Matjaž Han hosted a high-level event on the economic and social impacts of sport in the European Union as part of the official visit of the European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef.

On arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Minister Tanja Fajon joined her counterparts in expressing support for Ukraine as it enters its fifth year of military aggression. Ministers wore sunflower brooches as a symbol of hope, peace, resistance and Ukrainian national identity. “The war in Ukraine must end,” Minister Fajon said.

The 61st regular session of the UN Human Rights Council opens today in Geneva. This is the first session in which Slovenia is participating as a member during its 2026–2028 term. It will be represented at the high-level segment by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon.

Prime Minister Robert Golob today visited the affected areas to assess the situation on the ground following the severe weather event and heavy snowfall that hit the north-east of the country. He also attended a meeting of the coordination group in Maribor.

The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Implementation of further vocational and professional development and training programmes in 2025-2029. The European Social Fund Plus will contribute €13.4 million to this large-scale project, which totals €20 million.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, approximately 20,000 people will be engaged at nearly 3000 polling stations across Slovenia, making this the largest civic operation in the country.
