Prime Minister receives Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Ivan Penava

The main topics of the meeting were the investigation of the mass grave at Tezno and the possibility of repatriating the remains of Croatian victims. According to researchers' estimates, between 15,000 and 20,000 people are buried at Tezno. It is the largest post-war mass grave of Croatians. 

Following the meeting, Commission Chair Mitja Ferenc said: "The first thing we would like to carry out this month is a field investigation of the grave sites in Crngrob.  Based on reports prepared by the Croatian side with the assistance of human remains detection dogs, we will first investigate several more grave sites and then proceed with the exhumation of the victims. Among them are relatives of members of the Croatian Government who were killed there. This was the first issue we discussed. The second issue we discussed was the possibility of preparing and investigating the anti-tank trench at Tezno. Over the next month, our team will endeavour to determine how much further the trench extends beyond the 930 metres identified so far. We know that this section of the trench is filled with bodies, which means that almost 15,000 victims are buried there. Based on our findings, we will work with the Croatian side to explore the possibilities for beginning the exhumation of the Croatian victims. This year, we also plan to begin preparing the area around the trench so that it is suitable for lighting candles, paying respects and walking along the entire length of the trench. This would allow people to commemorate their relatives who were killed in this area in past decades."
