Current veterinary topics and the agrometeorological portal presented at the Agra Fair

The conference was organised in cooperation with the Veterinary Chamber of Slovenia and the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. Participants were first addressed by Ms Andreja Bizjak, Acting Director General of the Administration, who highlighted the importance of Veterinary Day and outlined some of the key challenges facing the veterinary sector.

Welcome addresses were also given by Prof. Dr Breda Jakovac Strajn, Dean of the Veterinary Faculty, which is celebrating 70 years of veterinary medicine studies this year, and Mr Tomo Wankmüller, President of the Veterinary Chamber of Slovenia. Both speakers emphasised the importance of cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and experience within the veterinary sector.

Minister of Agriculture Mr Janez Cigler Kralj highlighted the importance of an effective public veterinary service and food security. He attended the event together with Ms Katja Kokot, President of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sovereignty of the National Assembly.

The programme continued with a presentation by Ms Jedrt Maurer Wernig (the Administration) on the current situation regarding notifiable diseases in the European Union and the wider region. She stressed the importance of consistently implementing preventive and biosecurity measures and presented the latest developments in animal health legislation.

The conference concluded with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Mitja Gombač of the Veterinary Faculty on the role of veterinary pathologists in cases of suspected animal cruelty.

At the Ministry of Agriculture's exhibition stand, the Administration staff, together with experts from the public plant health service of the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia and the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry Maribor, presented the agrometeorological portal. The portal brings together key information for plant protection and helps farmers plan agricultural activities in a timely manner.
