Minister Tone Kajzer met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations of the Holy See. He was also received for talks by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State. The discussions centred on fostering friendly relations and the mutual commitment to maintaining regular dialogue. Minister Kajzer emphasised Slovenia’s readiness to further strengthen its cooperation with the Holy See. The interlocutors also exchanged views on the current situation in the international community, including the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and migration.
During his visit to the Sovereign Order of Malta, Minister Kajzer met with Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, Grand Chancellor and Minister for Foreign Affairs. They discussed potential areas of cooperation between the Republic of Slovenia and the Sovereign Order of Malta, and exchanged views on current international issues. Particular attention was paid to humanitarian work and opportunities for further cooperation in this field.
While in Rome, Minister Kajzer also met with Rania Dagash-Kamara, the World Food Programme's Assistant Executive Director for Partnerships and Innovation. Ensuring food security is one of Slovenia’s key development and humanitarian priorities. Minister Kajzer emphasised that Slovenia strongly supports international efforts to combat hunger and is committed to ensuring global food security.
In this regard, Slovenia not only advocates for the provision of emergency food aid, but also for development aid, which enables people to improve their living conditions in the long term and strengthen the resilience of their communities. For example, Slovenia is partnering with the World Food Programme on a development beekeeping project in Kenya, helping pastoralist communities affected by climate change to develop sustainable livelihoods.
