Prekmurje Incorporation and Reunification of Prekmurje Slovenians with the Mother Nation Day

To mark the national holiday commemorating the incorporation of Prekmurje and the reunification of the Prekmurje Slovenians with their mother nation, State Secretary Dr Stanislav Raščan attended the main ceremony in Velika Polana, which took place on the eve of the holiday. Prior to this, he attended a ceremony and wreath-laying at the monument to the national revivalist Jožef Klekl in Črenšovci.

By taking part in the main celebrations, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs emphasises the importance of preserving historical memory, Slovenian national identity and the integration of all parts of the Slovenian national territory.

This year’s commemoration of the holiday goes beyond merely remembering a historical event; it also presents an opportunity to highlight the Ministry’s role in safeguarding the Slovenian national territory, maintaining ties with Slovenians abroad and strengthening their connection with the homeland. The holiday also serves as a reminder that Slovenian culture and identity are an important part of Slovenian foreign policy and its activities within the European and wider international arena.

On Friday, 14 August 2026, State Secretary Raščan attended the celebrations to mark the 30th municipal holiday of the Municipality of Beltinci.

The holiday will also be celebrated with a cultural programme at Prekmurski trg square in Ljubljana.
