EU funding for green spaces and improved flood protection in Metlika

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the Dry Retention Reservoir project, which will help improve flood safety and create new green spaces in Metlika. The project will receive nearly €700,00 from the European Regional Development Fund.

As part of the project, a dry retention reservoir will be constructed to improve flood protection measures and increase the urban area's resilience to flooding. The project will also improve air quality and reduce noise levels, creating a better living environment.

The project is dedicated to preserving biodiversity. A wetland will be established, nature observation hides will be installed, and new plantings of native tree and other plant species will also be carried out.

The development of new green spaces will create opportunities for various leisure activities, recreation and social interaction, while promoting a healthy lifestyle. The project combines climate change adaptation measures with improvements to the quality of the living environment and the preservation of natural ecosystems.

The project, worth €1,074,092.74, is implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 and will receive €693,945.08 in EU funding. The beneficiary of the funding is the Municipality of Metlika.
