Ministry of Foreign Affairs Travel Advice: COVID-19
As the probability of infection with Covid-19 remains present, Slovenian citizens wishing to travel abroad are advised to follow the news on the spread of the virus, especially on the planned route, to check the conditions of entry into the country of destination, and to comply with local rules. Slovenian citizens returning from abroad are advised to follow the recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).
Diplomatic representations perform the functions set out in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and in the Vienna Convention on the Representation of States in Their Relations with International Organisations of a Universal Character. These functions consist particularly of: representing and acting on behalf of Slovenia in the receiving state or international organisation and developing friendly relations and cooperation; protecting and implementing the interests of the Republic of Slovenia, its nationals and legal entities; promoting Slovenia’s positions and interests in international organisations; informing bodies, institutions and the public in the receiving state or the international organisation of Slovenia’s achievements, characteristics and positions, etc.
Embassies also perform consular functions in the receiving state. If there is a consular post of the Republic of Slovenia in the receiving state, headed by a career consular officer, the embassy exercises consular functions in the part of the territory of the receiving state that does not fall within the consular district of the consular post.
Primary functions of a consular post headed by a career consular officer are: protecting the interests of the Republic of Slovenia, its nationals and legal entities, and discharging other consular and legal tasks; furthering the development of relations in the fields of the economy, culture, science, and education; developing cooperation with the Slovenian national minority and Slovenian emigrants and migrant workers, and promoting the preservation of the Slovenian language and culture among them, etc.
The primary function of a consular post headed by honorary consular officer is representing Slovenia’s economic interests. In the area of consular affairs, honorary consular officers have no consular competences and can not perform consular and administrative services. They can only act on request/instructions from a diplomatic or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia, or from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.
