Sanja Štiglic

Sanja Štiglic was appointed as the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and as Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in September 2024.

Prior to her appointment, she was State Secretary for Political and Multilateral Affairs and Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (2023-2024).

She served as Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) (2017-2022).

She was State Secretary for the European Affairs, Bilateral Relations with EU Countries and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2016-2017).

She also served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the United Nations in New York (2007-2012).

During her diplomatic career Ambassador Štiglic has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director-General, Head of Department and Head of the Minister's Office. She was also Slovenia's Alternate Representative to the United Nations Security Council (1998-1999).

Born in 1970, Sanja Štiglic holds a law degree from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She speaks English, German, Spanish and Croatian.
