The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Equipping the 2019 Kranj agglomeration. The project will receive almost €8 million from the Cohesion Fund.

UNESCO’s designation of 13 September as the International Day of Caves and Karst is a remarkable diplomatic achievement for Slovenia. It is the result of a successful diplomatic campaign spanning several years and a testament to the excellence of Slovenian karstology. The campaign was also a success thanks to the many years of outstanding work carried out by Slovenian scientists researching and protecting caves, karst and related phenomena.

During the Government's first 100 days, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has guided foreign policy according to the principle of "diplomacy in the service of the people". The focus has been on providing practical assistance to Slovenian citizens abroad, strengthening relations with neighbouring countries, creating new opportunities for the Slovenian economy and representing Slovenia's interests more actively both in Europe and around the world.

Tone Kajzer, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, made his first visit to the Vatican, where he met with senior representatives of the Holy See and the Sovereign Order of Malta. In Rome, he also visited the headquarters of the World Food Programme, where he emphasised Slovenia’s commitment to food security and development aid.

In an interview with the American Newsmax television network, Prime Minister Janez Janša spoke about Slovenia's relations with Israel and the United States of America, the war in Ukraine, the strengthening of European defence capabilities, and current political and security challenges.

The 2026 Environmental Performance Review of Slovenia, an independent assessment of progress made by Slovenia in environmental and climate policy, notes progress in several areas while also pointing to a number of gaps in areas such as pressures on biodiversity, delays in expanding municipal wastewater discharge and treatment systems, the need for faster emissions reduction and the gap between the targets adopted and their implementation.

At today's session, the Government took note of the Autumn Forecast of Economic Trends and adopted the revised budget for this year, as well as an intervention act to improve the efficiency of long-term care provision, which will also allow for greater flexibility in the provision of services to users.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the Dry Retention Reservoir project, which will help improve flood safety and create new green spaces in Metlika. The project will receive nearly €700,00 from the European Regional Development Fund.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for an electric bus charging station in Maribor, implemented under the Integrated Territorial Investment mechanism supporting urban development. The project will receive just over €1.85 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for a project supporting the redevelopment of green spaces in the Municipality of Hajdina. The redevelopment of a 1.7-hectare public space will enhance green infrastructure in the centre of the town, creating a more attractive environment and better opportunities for outdoor recreation. The project will receive €204,000 from the European Regional Development Fund.

Following today's Government session, at which the Government approved the draft revised state budget for 2026, Prime Minister Janez Janša presented the key findings from the Government's first 100 days in office.

Slovenia will celebrate UNESCO’s International Day of Caves and Karst for the first time on 13 September 2026.

The glacier below Slovenia's highest peak, Mt Triglav, has been reduced to patches of ice and is on the verge of disappearing. Based on observations at the end of August, researchers say it is highly likely that its last remnants will disappear by the end of this year's melting season.

State Secretary Rok Šimenc participated in the 6th international development conference Welcome Future – Cities in Motion which was held in Velenje. The conference brough together representatives of local governments and business community, researchers and academics as well as representatives of national and EU institutions to discuss ways to unlock new development opportunities for cities undergoing economic, energy and social transformation.

As of this year this year, 13 September is observed as International Caves and Karst Day, proclaimed by the UNESCO General Conference on 12 November 2025. Slovenia will mark the first International Caves and Karst Day in Postojna, home to the International Union of Speleology. The day aims to raise awareness of the importance of caves and karst, promote research and education and encourage efforts to protect them.

Initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, the International Space Summit brought together representatives of governments, international organisations, space agencies, academia and industry to discuss the future of the space sector and its role in addressing technological, economic, security and environmental challenges. Minister Anže Logar also attended the Summit.

Tone Kajzer, the Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, hosted Gideon Sa'ar, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs. This is the first visit to Slovenia by an Israeli foreign minister at this level in 16 years and reflects a renewed impetus for political and economic cooperation. The two ministers also signed the 2026–2030 Programme of Cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, youth and sport.
