Police and Security Directorate

The Police and Security Directorate is responsible for the systemic management and supervision of the Police. It manages the resolution of complaints concerning police officers' conduct before panels and provides guidance and supervision to the Police in handling complaints at first instance.

The Directorate is also responsible for private security, municipal wardens and detective work. It maintains registers of private security licence holders and persons issued with service ID cards for carrying out private security work, as well as registers of ski patrollers. It monitors the conduct of detective work and oversees the issuing of licences to detectives. The Directorate issues security clearance certificates authorising staff of the Ministry and other bodies to access classified information, and other security clearances to organisations and their employees.

It ensures the professional drafting of acts and regulations relating to the Police and other matters within its remit. It provides analytical information and support to the Directorate’s divisions, participates in research activities conducted by the Police and the Ministry, and contributes to improving operational processes and IT solutions relating to the Police and other security authorities.

The Directorate develops systemic solutions in the areas of security planning and crisis management in the event of natural and other disasters, as well as during crises, states of emergency and war, within the framework of the Republic of Slovenia's national security system.

It is also responsible for tasks relating to the physical protection of nuclear facilities and materials, and the transport of nuclear materials.
