Classified Information Division
The Division issues security clearances to organisations that require authorisation to access classified information for the purpose of carrying out public or other contracts, except for contracts in the defence sector, where authorisation is issued to organisations by the Ministry responsible for defence, and for contracts relating to the work of the Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency, where authorisation is issued to organisations by the Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency.
The Classified Information Division notifies the national security authority responsible for classified information about the authorisations issued for access to classified information and the security clearances granted to organisations, and provides expert assistance to the Ministry staff in the handling and protection of classified information.
As provided in the Classified Information Act, the Division holds training sessions to familiarise the staff at the Ministry and its constituent bodies with the regulations and procedures governing national and foreign classified information. It also performs internal checks of the implementation of the Classified Information Act and the regulations adopted pursuant to it by the staff at the Ministry and the Inspectorates.
The Classified Information Division is also in charge of the management of the Ministry's secured zone. The secured zone serves as the entry point for consignments marked with a security classification level addressed to the Ministry and its constituent bodies. A comprehensive communications and information system has been established within the secured zone to ensure secure handling and protection of national and foreign information classified at various security levels. The EU and NATO sub-registries also operate within the secured zone.
