About the Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development is responsible for overseeing the organisation and functioning of Slovenian municipalities, balanced regional development and the implementation of European cohesion policy. As the national managing authority, the Ministry ensures the effective use of European funds and other financial mechanisms. Through stakeholder coordination and strategic development planning, the Ministry creates the conditions for the sustainable national development and the effective functioning of local communities in line with European Union objectives and policies.

The Ministry coordinates and monitors their activities for the implementation of the cohesion policy and reports to the Government. It is responsible for the consistency of national development planning documents and the consistency of the national development planning documents with the development documents of the European Union and other international organisations. The Ministry also performs management tasks related to other financial mechanisms, such as the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the EEA Financial Mechanism. The Ministry focuses on planning regional development and implementing national and European programmes; it is also active in the area of entrepreneurship.
