Slovenia Weekly: Constructive in cooperation

The week was marked by several events. Among the news, we would like to highlight the Prime Minister's visit to neighbouring Austria, where he and his host, Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer, discussed the close relations between the two countries, Austria's temporary controls on the Slovenian border, and the improvement of the situation of the Slovenian national community. On his first official visit to Austria, Prime Minister Robert Golob reiterated Slovenia's position that Austria's prolonged border controls are unjustified and ineffective. He also stressed that the Slovenian language should be reintroduced in kindergartens in Austrian Carinthia with the aim of strengthening its use in preschool education.

Slovenia was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2024–2025 by 153 votes in the first round of voting at the UN General Assembly in New York last Tuesday. Slovenia's election to the UN Security Council is a milestone for the whole country, Prime Minister Robert Golob said at a joint press conference with President Nataša Pirc Musar and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon. The convincing result shows that Slovenia is once again recognised on the international stage as a constructive player, the Prime Minister stressed.
