Higher Education, Science and Culture cooperation

In the field of higher education, two agreements have been concluded between Slovenia and Bulgaria: the umbrella Agreement between the Governments on Cooperation in Science, Education and Culture (signed in March 1993) and the Agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Slovenia and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria on scientific and technological cooperation (signed in March 2007).

Cooperation in the field of higher education is based on the Cooperation Program (2006), which provides for the exchange of up to 14 monthly scholarships per year, scholarships for summer language schools and the operation of Slovene and Bulgarian language lectureships. In accordance with this program, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Slovenia finances the operation of the Slovene Language Lectorate at the Sofia University of Sv. Kliment Ohridski. The lectureship operates at the Faculty of Slavonic Studies, within the Department of Slavic Linguistics, and is led by a teacher from Slovenia, lecturer Eva Šprager.

In addition to bilateral scholarships offered under the Cooperation Program, inter-university exchange opportunities also exist under the CEEPUS Central European Student and Professor Exchange Program.
