Slovenia EUR 10y benchmark – new mandate
The Republic of Slovenia, rated A3 (positive) / AA (stable) / A+ (stable), has mandated Barclays, DZ BANK, HSBC, J.P. Morgan, OTP Banka Slovenia and Raiffeisen Bank International to lead manage a new benchmark EUR transaction with a 10-year tenor. The transaction will be Regulation S in dematerialised registered form. The deal is expected to be launched in the near future, subject to market conditions.

On 1 January 2026, Slovenia begins its three-year term as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, based in Geneva. This marks Slovenia’s third term on this key UN body, whose mandate is to promote, strengthen and protect human rights worldwide.

Archivalia of the month January 2026
The Archivalia of the Month section features the Archivalia of the month of January, which is dedicated to the history of the construction of the Home Guard barracks (Domobranska vojašnica) at the intersection of Roška and Poljanska streets in Ljubljana. Built at the turn of the 20th century, the building served as a military facility until 1991. Following its decommissioning, its purpose was changed, and it has since served as a home for cultural heritage.

On 17 December this year, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, as the founder and sole shareholder of the company Slovenska tiskovna agencija, d. o. o. State Secretary Grašič: Significant progress by candidate countries demonstrates that EU enlargement is achievable
State Secretary Neva Grašič participated in the General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, which focused on the draft European Council conclusions, the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028–2034 and conclusions on EU enlargement. The three EU institutions approved the joint declaration on EU legislative priorities for 2026, and ministers were briefed on progress on legislative simplification and on the roadmap for the 2026 European Semester.

The Ministry of Culture will implement the call in the first half of January 2026.

The Council of the European Union approves the fourth amendment to the Recovery and Resilience Plan
The Council of the European Union, meeting in the composition of Finance Ministers, today approved the fourth amendment to Slovenia's Recovery and Resilience Plan. A total of EUR 2.14 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Facility is now available for its implementation, of which EUR 526 million in loans (previously EUR 613 million) and an unchanged amount of grants worth EUR 1.61 billion.

The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs organised a meeting in Ljubljana for directors of consular crisis centres from Slovenia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia. 10th Anniversary International Day of Genocide Prevention
In 2015, the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Armenia, passed a resolution establishing 9 December as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime. The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was one of the first treaties addressing respect for human rights and was adopted one day before the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on 10 December 1948. Commemoration and memorialisation efforts not only honour the victims and survivors of genocide, but also serve as effective mechanisms for the prevention of future genocides.

Minister Sajovic concludes his official visit to Ukraine

182nd Regular Session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia
At today’s session, the Government adopted the draft Act on Salaries and Remuneration of Public Employees and Officials Related to Work Abroad, and the draft amendment to the Act on the First Pension Fund of the Republic of Slovenia and the Transformation of Authorised Investment Companies. It also adopted a decision on claiming partial reimbursement of wage compensation for reduced working hours.

Important milestones and targets that enabled Slovenia to receive EUR 440 million for recovery and resilience
Among the 27 milestones and targets whose fulfilment enabled Slovenia to receive funds under the fourth payment request within the Recovery and Resilience Facility are the introduction of a crisis short-time working scheme, changes to labour market regulation and the pension reform. For the successful implementation of these measures, Slovenia received EUR 400 million in grants and EUR 40 million in loans.

In The Hague, Minister Fajon advocates further measures to protect the International Criminal Court

Over €190 million in EU and national funding available for the SAŠA coal region
''If you take a walk through Velenje or Šoštanj, you can see that the restructuring process did not start with the Just Transition Fund. Government visit to the Podravje region
The Government visited the Podravje region. At its regular session held during the visit, it endorsed several important legislative and financial measures – ranging from strategic investments at the University of Maribor to amendments to cohesion policy, housing and healthcare measures, and a new regulatory framework for the wine sector. Separate programmes of members of the Government followed, and the day concluded with a consultation with mayors and business representatives on the key challenges facing the region.

At today’s session, the Government adopted draft acts on the gradual closure of the Velenje Coal Mine, on additional emergency measures in the field of healthcare, on wine, and the draft amendment to the Act on the Financing and Promotion of the Construction of Public Rental Housing. The Government approved the second amendment to the European Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027 and signed an agreement with the Municipality of Maribor.

State Secretary Neva Grašič met with non-resident ambassadors to Slovenia in the Austrian capital, Vienna. In her address, she highlighted the most prominent achievements of Slovenian foreign policy in 2025: Slovenia's first MED9 presidency and its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council, which ends with Slovenia’s presidency of the Council in December.

Slovenia receives €440 million in EU funds for recovery and resilience
Today, the European Commission paid €440 million to Slovenia on the basis of the fourth payment request under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). "Slovenia has met all the milestones and targets linked to the fourth payment request and has therefore received the maximum possible disbursement," said Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič upon the inflow of funds.

UN Security Council and General Assembly unanimously adopt twin resolutions on the review of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture
Today, the General Assembly and the Security Council unanimously adopted twin resolutions with identical wording on the review of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture (Peacebuilding Architecture Review – PBAR). The negotiation process was led by the Permanent Representatives of Slovenia and Egypt, Ambassadors Samuel Žbogar and Osama Abdelkhalek. The adoption of the resolutions and the agreement on strengthening the effectiveness of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture marked the successful conclusion of nearly one year of negotiations.

Slovenia elected to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
At the 30th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, held in The Hague, the Netherlands, Slovenia was elected to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for the 2026–2028 term. Minister Fajon in Luanda: Slovenia calls for enhanced cooperation between the EU, the African Union and the UN
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon, represented Slovenia at the seventh EU-African Union Summit in Luanda, attended by more than 40 European and African leaders.
