EU funding for the Podutik wetland forest and pond

The project addresses drainage issues in the local wetland forest and excessive nutrient levels (eutrophication) in the Podutik pond, which are degrading water quality. As part of the project, a new stream channel will be constructed in the forest, the pond will be deepened, and a sedimentation basin will be installed upstream of the stream’s outlet to trap debris. The area surrounding the water retention basin will also be landscaped. For visitors, the existing walking trail will be renovated, a new path with raised mesh panels will be built, and footbridges and walkways will be installed. By planting appropriate vegetation, the area's ecological conditions will improve, thereby creating a total of 2.9 hectares of green space.

The project is implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027, namely under the priority Green transformation for climate neutrality, and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

The project is valued at €1,493,108.26, with eligible costs amounting to €1,398,588.65. Both the European Regional Development Fund contribution and the national contribution amount to €559,534.46, while the remaining funding will be provided by the Urban Municipality of Ljubljana.
