The Ministry of the Economy, Labour and Sport is responsible for creating a supportive, stable and competitive environment for the development of the Slovenian economy, the creation of quality jobs and the enhancement of Slovenia’s international competitiveness. Through its measures, the Ministry supports the growth and development of companies both domestically and in foreign markets, promotes entrepreneurship, innovation and internationalisation, while simultaneously helping to shape a modern, secure and inclusive labour market. The areas of operation include various industries, entrepreneurship, tourism, the internal market, the wood industry, sport, labour and employment. The Ministry shapes policies in the areas of labour relations, employment and labour mobility, striving for balanced economic development and the protection of employees’ rights.

The Ministry also includes affiliated bodies responsible for intellectual property, market inspection, sports inspection and labour inspection, as well as metrology, and implementing agencies that support the implementation of development measures and the promotion of the Slovenian economy and tourism.
