Slovenia Weekly: Community responsibilities

This week Prime Minister Robert Golob received Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón. They discussed the current situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the war in Gaza. The Slovenian Prime Minister and his Spanish counterpart also raised the question of how Spain and Slovenia can best respond to the situation in Gaza and the Middle East. "In many respects we share the same views. We are aware of our responsibilities in the international community. We are also aware of our responsibilities towards the people of Gaza. We agree that we cannot simply stand by and watch developments unfold," Prime Minister Golob said, adding that the two countries are committed to working towards a solution and to taking further steps in the coming weeks.

The Prime Ministers also touched on the issue of recognition of Palestine. They praised the relations between the two countries, and Prime Minister Golob said that they had also discussed the holding of a joint government meeting, likely to take place in Spain in September or October. The aim of the joint meeting would be to deepen relations and strengthen economic cooperation.
