Slovenia Weekly: Teamwork

On Saturday, Slovenia will celebrate the Day of Sport as a public holiday, also marking the start of the European Week of Sport, which runs until 30 September. A number of events will take place across Slovenia under the motto "Let's celebrate actively". On 18 June 2020, the deputies of the National Assembly voted by 74 votes to one in favour of the new holiday, which marks the day in 2000 when athletes from independent Slovenia  won their first Olympic gold medals in Sydney. Slovenia celebrated its first Sports Day as a public holiday on 23 September 2020, joining the seven countries that already had a sports day.

At the Michelin Awards, Slovenian chefs emphasised that, as is often the case in sport, teamwork is also the key to success in gastronomy. Ana Roš, together with Hiša Franko, was awarded a new Michelin star in the Michelin Guide for 2023, bringing her restaurant’s total number of Michelin stars to three, the highest recognition bestowed by the Michelin Guide. Hiša Franko is thus the 140th restaurant worldwide to be awarded the Michelin Guide's highest accolade. Slovenia now has 12 Michelin stars. The country received its first Michelin stars and other Michelin Guide awards in 2020.
