Slovenia Weekly: Progress and knowledge for the future

The European Commission’s Fourth Annual Rule of Law Report on the rule of law situation in EU member states in 2023 shows that Slovenia has made progress in almost all fields. The European Commission noted Slovenia’s progress in all the four fields discussed in the report, i.e. national justice system, corruption prevention, media pluralism and freedom, and other institutional checks and balances.

The Novartis corporation is dedicated to its operations in Slovenia. Novartis has invested EUR 3.4 billion in Slovenia so far; if the purchase price for the Lek company is added to this, the amount exceeds EUR 5.4 billion. The multinational corporation invested EUR 400 million in Slovenia in the last two years alone. A part of this sum, i.e. EUR 111 million, is intended for the new centre for biotherapeutics development in Mengeš, which will become the largest industrial centre of modern innovative biotechnology in Slovenia. "Those who invest in knowledge need not fear the future," said the Prime Minister at the opening ceremony, while highlighting that companies which rely on innovation recognise crises as opportunities. At a time of crises, it is necessary to invest in innovation and science, which is also proven by the largest industrial centre for modern innovative biotechnology in Slovenia. The Government supports such investment and has been allocating more funds from the budget for innovations.
