Slovenia Weekly: Open way

The budgets for the next two years will be marked significantly by the mitigation of the consequences of the post-COVID 19 era and the energy crisis. Some EUR 16.7 billion of expenditure is planned in 2023, and EUR 15.5 billion in 2024. According to Klemen Boštjančič, the Minister of Finance, the budget deficit in 2023 will amount to EUR 3.3 billion. On that note, the Minister assured that, in spite of the challenging circumstances, the Government will strive for the welfare of citizens and suitable economic recovery measures.

In the future multi-annual financial framework until the end of 2027, Slovenia will be able to draw EUR 3.26 billion from EU funds. Dr Aleksander Jevšek, the Minister for Development and European Cohesion Policy, and Elisa Ferreira, the Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, signed the Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Slovenia and the European Commission in Ljubljana. With the approval and signing of the Agreement, Slovenia has opened the way to EUR 3.26 billion of European funds in the future programme period. Slovenia must now complete and confirm the cohesion policy implementation programme. The primary objective is to particularly invest in green and digital transformation, competitiveness and social cohesion, which are also the Government’s priorities.

For two weeks, Piran became a backdrop for an action film made by a foreign film crew with star actors. So far, this has been the largest foreign production in Slovenia. The Government contributed monetary compensation in the amount of EUR 2.5 million for the implementation of the film project in Slovenia. The implementation of the project will contribute to an estimated 30,000 overnight stays and the planned use of more than EUR 10 million of the film crew’s funds for preparations and filming here. Such projects are a good tourist promotion of Slovenia and a reference for Slovenia as a destination for filming and film tourism.
