  • Conference: Protecting Civilians and Civilian Infrastructure under International Humanitarian Law

    On 16 April 2026, the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana hosted a trilateral conference between Slovenia, Austria and Italy entitled Protecting Civilians and Civilian Infrastructure under International Humanitarian Law. The event was attended by more than fifty representatives of state institutions, the Slovenian, Austrian and Italian Red Cross, academia and student groups.

  • Minister Fajon at MED9: A united and decisive response is needed to stop the violence in the Middle East

    Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon participated in the MED9 Informal Ministerial Meeting in Split to discuss security and cooperation in the Mediterranean. “The situation in the Middle East affects us all. We must insist on diplomacy and respect for the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, which must apply to everyone,” said Minister Fajon.

  • Minister Fajon meets with representatives of the Slovenian national minority in Trieste

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon attended a ceremony in Trieste to mark the 30th anniversary of the Executive Secretariat of the Central European Initiative (CEI). She also held a separate meeting with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. Before that, she met with representatives of the Slovenian national minority in Italy at the Slovenian Consulate General.

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon addressed participants at a roundtable discussion at the Faculty of Social Sciences on the occasion of the reprinting of the report of the Slovenian-Italian Historical and Cultural Commission. She emphasised the importance of the report for understanding the complex history of relations between the two peoples and countries.

    As part of the International Law collection, published by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and the Faculty of Social Sciences Publishing House, a reprint of the book Slovene-Italian Relations 1880–1956, Report of the Slovene-Italian Historical and Cultural Commission has been issued.

  • State Secretary Grašič on further strengthening economic relations between Slovenia and Italy

    On 30 September 2025, State Secretary Neva Grašič addressed participants at the conference titled 'Strategies for Competitiveness, Industry Leaders and Supply Heads Chains', held at the Grand Hotel Union. The event was organised by Confindustria Slovenia, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Italian Republic and the Italian Trade Agency.

  • Minister Arčon in Trieste for a visit to the Slovene minority in Italy

    The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Slovenians Abroad, Matej Arčon, visited Trieste, where he met with the leaders and representatives of societies from the two umbrella organisations, the Slovenian Cultural and Economic Union and the Council of Slovenian Organisations. He also visited several Slovenian institutions. He was accompanied by Gregor Šuc, the Consul-General of the Republic of Slovenia in Trieste.

  • Minister Fajon co-chairs 5th session of the Slovenia-Friuli Venezia Giulia Joint Committee

    The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon, co-chaired the 5th session of the Slovenia-Friuli Venezia Giulia Joint Committee in Trieste, together with the President of the Region, Massimiliano Fedriga. Minister Fajon underlined that this type of cooperation contributes to the improvement and diversification of bilateral relations between Slovenia and Italy and is also of great importance for the two minorities.

    The 5th session of the Slovenia-Friuli Venezia Giulia Joint Committee that was co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Tanja Fajon and the President of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia Massimiliano Fedriga was held in Trieste. The State Secretary at the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development also participated in the meeting.

    In these days when Italy commemorates the victims of the foibe and the exodus from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia, the Ministry reiterates the importance of comprehensive and respectful remembrance and dignity for all the victims of the tragic events of the 20th century war and post-war period. Every community keeps the memory of its painful experiences alive, but it must also ensure that this pain does not breed more resentment or fear.

  • State Secretary Štucin in Rome on bilateral relations and Western Balkans

    In Rome, State Secretary Štucin met with Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmondo Cirielli to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations between Slovenia and Italy. He also participated in a meeting of the Friends of the Western Balkans and presented a joint Slovenian-German initiative to improve the efficiency of decision-making in the enlargement process.

  • Migration: Slovenian, Italian and Croatian interior ministers to step up cooperation

    A trilateral meeting of the Ministers of the Interior of Croatia, Italy and Slovenia, Davor Bozinović, Matteo Piantedosi and Boštjan Poklukar, took place in Buzet, Croatia. The ministers discussed current developments on the Western Balkan migration route, the strengthening of cooperation with the Western Balkan region and the temporary reintroduction of internal border controls.
