Prime Minister Janez Janša with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on cooperation, migration and European challenges

The President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, at Palazzo Chigi.

The two leaders agreed to elevate the bilateral partnership to a strategic level through the adoption of an action plan focusing on sectors such as defence, energy, connectivity, research, innovation, and culture.

They also discussed the upcoming European Council meeting and a structural reduction in energy costs for households and businesses. They agreed that the next Multiannual Financial Framework must secure funding for new Union priorities, as well as for cohesion policy and agriculture. In a letter, 17 Heads of State and Government, including Slovenia, urged the Prime Minister of Ireland and the President of the European Council to ensure this.

The two leaders also addressed the management of migration flows, focusing particularly on protecting external borders and returning migrants.
