World Health Day 2026: Slovenia remains committed to strengthening science

The theme of this year’s World Health Day is Together for health. Stand with science. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has joined the calls to strengthen scientific collaboration in order to protect the health of people, animals, plants and the planet. It supports efforts to strengthen global health and food security, as well as to integrate health considerations into scientific, economic and development cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs is involved in these efforts, both within multilateral organisations and through bilateral cooperation with individual countries. It supports the Ministry of Health and other Slovenian state bodies, academic institutions, businesses and other organisations in promoting health and scientific achievements, raising awareness and facilitating the exchange of best practices.

One of the central themes of this year’s World Health Day is the One Health concept. Its main objective is to achieve an optimal balance between the health of people, animals and ecosystems, recognising that these three areas are closely linked and interdependent. In this context, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs is working alongside the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, as well as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), to develop ‘bee diplomacy’. This includes various diplomatic tools designed to support bees and other pollinators, thereby indirectly strengthening biodiversity, food security and healthy and balanced sustainable development. Through workshops and projects, it also promotes and raises awareness of healthy nutrition and a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, as well as health and social rehabilitation.

In order to create a healthier and safer future for everyone, Slovenia is committed to strengthening science and basing decisions on proven scientific findings. In cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs supports Slovenian scientific achievements and encourages scientific research activities, including in the health sector. The Ministry also advocates decision-making based on scientific findings and knowledge, with the aim of creating a healthier and safer future for all.
