The Government adopted the decision on consent to limit the enrolment and increase the number of enrolment slots for foreigners, the citizens of countries that are not EU member states, in undergraduate and integrated Master’s study programmes, the decision on determining the proportions of collecting waste grave candles from public utility service providers for the period until 30 June 2024 and declared 2024 the year of General Rudolf Maister.

The Government adopted the decision on consent to limit the enrolment and increase the number of enrolment slots for foreigners, the citizens of countries that are not EU member states, in undergraduate and integrated Master’s study programmes at public and concessioned higher education institutions in the academic year 2023/2024.

The Rules on pre-enrolment announcement and enrolment in higher education determine that if the number of candidates who applied for enrolment exceeds the number of enrolment slots, the competent authority of a university or an independent higher education institution makes a decision on limiting the enrolment or increasing the number of enrolment slots.

The universities of Ljubljana, Maribor and Primorska proposed to increase the number of enrolment slots for foreigners (foreign citizens coming from the countries that are not EU member states) by a total of 200 slots (192 full-time and 8 part-time slots) in 26 study programmes. While observing Article 41 of the Higher Education Act and Article 28 of the Rules on pre-enrolment announcement and enrolment in higher education, the Government gave its consent to the increase in the number of enrolment slots.

The Government adopted the decision to declare 2024 the year of General Rudolf Maister.

Next year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth and the 90th anniversary of the death of the general and poet Rudolf Maister – Vojanov. The national celebration of Maister’s creativity and his role in the collective consciousness of the Slovenians will encompass numerous events and projects in 2024 and will reach its climax with the solemn ceremony on 23 November 2024 on the national holiday, Rudolf Maister Day, which marks the day when General Maister and his soldiers disarmed and banished the members of the German Green Guard from Maribor (on the night from 22 to 23 November 1918) and thus ensured that Lower or Southern Styria joined the then State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs (SHS) and today’s Republic of Slovenia.

The Government adopted the decision on determining the proportions of collecting waste grave candles from public utility service providers and cemetery managers for the period until 30 June 2024.
