Government amends Decree on excise duties on energy products and electricity

At today’s correspondence session, the Government amended the Decree determining the amount of excise duty on energy products and electricity, with which it changed the excise duty on automotive gas oil (diesel) and heating gas oil (extra light fuel oil – KOEL).

The Government amended the amount of excise duty in such a way that the final retail price of heating gas oil (KOEL) will be somewhat reduced, while the final retail price of automotive gas oil (diesel) will not change for consumers. Excise duty on heating gas oil (KOEL) is being changed from EUR 0.116 per litre to EUR 0.12190 per litre, and for automotive gas oil (diesel) from EUR 0.386 per litre to EUR 0.40633 per litre.

The Government is closely monitoring the situation in the petroleum product market and is adjusting the excise duties in a way that is intended to keep retail prices at an affordable level, while in light of the sustainability of public finances it is striving to gradually normalise the state budget revenue. Regarding the latter, it is important to re-introduce environmental taxes on fossil fuels, which represent a dedicated source for green investments, in the medium term and gradually, so that consumers do not feel financially pressured.
