Low voltage electrical equipment comprises electrical products which are operated under electrical voltage between 50 V and 1000 V for alternating current and between 75 V and 1500 V for direct current.

Requirements for the safety of low voltage electrical equipment

Low voltage electrical equipment can be accessible in the market only if it is produced in accordance with professional safety regulations valid in the Republic of Slovenia and under the condition that it is appropriately installed, maintained and used for an envisaged purpose and does not endanger the health and safety of people, domestic animals and property.

General requirements for low voltage electrical equipment:

  • the essential characteristics, the identification and observance of which will ensure that the electrical equipment is used safely and for the purposes for which it was manufactured, shall be marked on the electrical equipment or, failing that, in an accompanying document;
  • electrical equipment and its components shall be manufactured to ensure safe and proper assembly and connection;
  • electrical equipment is designed and manufactured to ensure protection against hazards, indicated under points 1 and 2 and under the condition that it is to be used for the purposes for which it was manufactured and is appropriately maintained.

Protection against hazards originating from electrical equipment

Technical measures shall ensure that:

  • persons and domestic animals are properly protected against the hazard of bodily injury or other injury caused by direct or indirect contact;
  • no temperature, electric arcs or radiations causing hazards arise;
  • persons and domestic animals and property are appropriately protected against non-electrical hazard;
  • The insulation is sufficient for the foreseeable conditions.

Protection against hazards caused by external impacts on electrical equipment

Technical measures shall ensure that:

  • electrical equipment fulfils the expected mechanical requirements and that no people, domestic animals or property are endangered;
  • in the expected environmental conditions, electrical equipment is resistant against non-mechanical impacts, so that people, domestic animals or property are not endangered;
  • electrical equipment in foreseeable conditions of overload does not endanger people, domestic animals or property.
