Dr Tomaž Žagar
Dr Tomaž Žagar began his professional career in the energy sector more than 25 years ago. After earning a degree in Physics from the University of Ljubljana, he completed a PhD in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Maribor, supported by his research work at the Jožef Stefan Institute.
Following his doctorate, he pursued further specialization at international organizations and research institutes in Germany, the United States, and Slovenia. As a postdoctoral researcher, he focused on the physics of transuranic elements, nuclear energy, and the sustainable use of nuclear power, including radioactive waste management.
In Slovenia, he continued his professional career at GEN energija d.o.o., where he most recently served as Head of the Analysis Department. He was also the Director of the Agency for Radioactive Waste Management for four years. In addition, he served as Chairman of the LEAD Council and as a member of the Council of the Energy Agency of the Republic of Slovenia.
At the Faculty of Energy Technology of the University of Maribor, he lectured on topics related to nuclear energy, sustainable development, and radioactive waste management.
