Department for the Coordination of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy

The Department for the Coordination of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), in cooperation with the Directorate for Political Affairs, manages the substantive and technical coordination of the CFSP and CSDP, and prepares positions for the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), informal meetings of foreign ministers, meetings of political directors, meetings of the Political and Security Committee (PSC) and relevant working groups.

The Department coordinates the work of Slovenia's representatives in the Council of the European Union working groups dealing with foreign policy and all other horizontal issues. The Department also coordinates and directs the activities of Slovenia's representatives in the CSDP working bodies, ensuring the coordination and alignment of positions within the Ministry and with other line ministries.

On CFSP and CSDP issues, the Department assists in the preparation of meetings of the European Council, the General Affairs Council (GAC) and Coreper II. In cooperation with the Directorate for Political Affairs, the Department regularly informs the representatives of EU Member States accredited in Slovenia about Slovenia's positions in the run-up to Foreign Affairs Council meetings and other important events related to the CFSP and CSDP.

The Department is headed by a European Correspondent, who, under the direction of the Political Director or the Director-General for Political Affairs, carries out tasks related to the EU's CFSP and CSDP, which primarily serve to support the work of the Minister and the Political Director.
