Animal Health and Welfare Division
Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU
Slovenia will strive to actively contribute to strengthening the EU's resilience to health, economic, energy, climate and cyber crises, which is incorporated in the slogan "Together. Resilient. Europe." Visit the official website of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union www.si2021.eu.
The Division provides background papers and premises for the development of policies and strategies to ensure the health and welfare of animals and for the development of other areas of administration.
The main tasks carried out by the Division concern:
- animal diseases and zoonoses;
- animal welfare;
- preparedness and crisis planning related to the occurrence of certain particularly dangerous animal diseases and zoonoses.
The Division is actively involved in the drafting of EU legislation on animal health and welfare. It draws up national rules governing its scope of work. It is also actively involved in the working groups of EU institutions and other international organisations, which allows for more professional and effective work with a view to ensuring high standards of animal health and welfare. The Division is responsible for the health and welfare of both farm animals and pets and, ultimately, also game; its work is inevitably linked with other services and authorities in the Republic of Slovenia and NGOs.
