The expert conference, organised by the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection, focused on the latest developments in animal health and welfare and other current issues in the veterinary sector.

Exchange of expertise, experiences and good practices was aimed at preparing recommendations for implementation in practice and more effective restriction of spread of this quarantine pest.

First meeting of EU directors of veterinary services under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU
The first meeting of the Working Group of Directors of Veterinary Services of the EU Member States under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU took place in Brussels on 6 and 7 July. Slovenia was represented by Ms. Andreja Bizjak, the new Acting Director General of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection.

World Food Safety Day – safe food everywhere
World Food Safety Day to be celebrated on Sunday, 7 June, this year puts in the forefront the meaning of data reliability for the adoption of appropriate measures in the food safety sector. Harmonised policies and concerted action in the spheres of healthcare, agriculture, trade, environment and consumer protection shall ensure safety to all, and a highest possible effect.

Beginning of mandatory vaccination against Bluetongue disease
Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection is notifying animal keepers that, as of 5 January, the mandatory vaccination against Bluetongue disease (BT) of the bovine, ovine and caprine animals is under way. Animal keepers shall arrange the vaccination particulars with their appointed veterinary practitioners. Animals shall be vaccinated by 24 April 2026 at the latest.
