Slovenia Weekly: Development, Stability and Progress

The Government has approved the proposed amendments to the 2027 budget and the draft budget for 2028. Presenting the budget, Prime Minister Janez Janša emphasised that next year's budget is focused on development. “We are increasing investment, raising the average per capita funding allocated to municipalities and accelerating the absorption of EU funds. At the same time, we are reducing the deficit to below 3% of GDP,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the approved budget represents an important step towards more stable public finances and lays the groundwork for the country's continued development. The key priorities remain sound public finances, support for Slovenia's development, decentralisation, cutting red tape and strengthening security.

During the visits of Prime Minister Janša to the Vatican and Rome this week, discussions focused on enhancing the agreement governing relations between Slovenia and the Holy See, as well as pursuing the goal of elevating the bilateral partnership between Slovenia and Italy to a strategic level.

The perfect finishing touch to the week in Slovenia came from Slovenian cycling star Primož Roglič. After the numerous setbacks he has suffered in recent seasons, he once again demonstrated the legendary Slovenian determination and resilience. His resolve to make the most of the unique opportunity to compete at the European Road Cycling Championships on home soil was rewarded with a flawless performance in the time trial, securing him the gold medal.
