Slovenia Weekly: Common action

This week in Slovenia concludes with the Slovenian No Food Waste Day, which incentivises individuals, organisations, and institutions to become more deliberate in purchasing, consuming and storing food, as well as to adopt other simple changes, through which they can contribute to more efficient food management and reducing the amount of discarded food.

The Slovenian Book Days event, with the main theme Words for the Future (Besede za prihodnost), was another way we celebrated World Book and Copyright Day. Throughout April, a series of Book Night events also took place, with their highlight being on World Book and Copyright Day.

Like in the rest of the world, various events reminded us of World Earth Day, which this year is being observed under the motto Our Power, Our Planet, emphasising the importance of joint action. As a point of interest, we highlight a sculpture, Earth Has Not Always Been Called Earth (Zemlja ni bila vedno imenovana Zemlja), which symbolises the importance of preserving healthy soil. The sculpture emerged as the winning work of a public competition organised by the Ljubljana Zoo. Three powerful spheres are used in the installation to represent the soil's layers. They symbolise the unseen support that people often take for granted. The authors conceived the idea as an answer to the question about the basic elements that enable and support life itself.
