Slovenia Weekly: Creating change

The Strategic Council for Nutrition has started its work. Its key task will be to draft proposals of measures for affordable, safe and high-quality food which will have a minimum negative impact on human health, the environment and climate. The Council will also prepare proposals and expert guidelines for updating of the national dietary guidelines, reducing food waste, raising public awareness about the need to change dietary habits due to health, environmental and climate aspects, and implement other tasks.

It is project that will be implemented throughout the entire Government’s term and will initially address two topical issues. The first is how to reform the system of meal vouchers for students so that the state supports a healthier diet of students by means of public funds, and the second is how to enable citizens to compare between different lifestyles by means of the project of monitoring the price of a basic food basket.

With this week's raise in the minimum wage, the government took care first and foremost of people who are most affected by high inflation and who spend most of their income on current living expenses. The raise was necessary as the prices of food and other basic necessities of life rose sharply last year, and costs increased.
