Slovenia Weekly: Keeping vows

On 1 January 2023 our neighbouring country Croatia was admitted to the Schengen Area. "Schengen and the abolishment of national borders is the best New Year's gift for Croatia.  It is a historic moment and an important milestone that will positively change the lives of people living along the border as henceforth they will be able to move and travel freely," said Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, congratulating Croatian citizens on Croatia's entry into the Schengen Area.

On this occasion, Fajon underlined that Slovenia, which celebrated the 15th anniversary of its own entry into Schengen just a few days ago, has always supported Croatia's efforts. "Slovenia no longer protects the external borders of the European Union, but I firmly believe that the Alliance will not be less secure," she added.
