Biathlon World Cup in Pokljuka and Golden Fox competition in Kranjska Gora

The world's best biathletes will gather again in Pokljuka after two years to compete in the individual sprint and pursuit competitions, as well as the mixed pairs and mixed relay races. The Golden Fox returns to Kranjska Gora, where the world's best giant slalom skiers will gather.

Pokljuka has been the setting for many interesting biathlon stories over the past thirty years | Author Sports Association Pokljuka

These are diverse biathlon disciplines, so the battle for the top places will be open right up to the last shots on the shooting range and the last few metres in the finishing straight.

138 female and 144 male biathletes will compete, 282 athletes from 31 countries in total. Among the Slovenian competitors, Jakov Fak and Anamarija Lampič stand out as the leaders in the men's and women's competitions respectively.

This will be the fourth World Cup venue in the 2022/23 biathlon season. In addition to the biathletes, the workload of the venue is also influenced by the support teams, which include 310 people to support the athletes.

Kranjska Gora hosts the traditional Golden Fox Alpine Skiing Cup, in which the world's best female skiers will compete in the giant slalom. The races will take place on 7 and 8 January 2023.

Slovenia's ski resorts have not been spared by the somewhat warm winters, but Kranjska Gora has enough snow to host the competition. "We are quite relieved, because there is enough snow in Kranjska Gora, given that there is hardly any elsewhere. We are confident that the course will be perfectly prepared for all the competitors," Gregor Lednik, Secretary General of the Golden Fox, told STA a few days ago after the FIS gave the green light for the competition.
