Slovenia Weekly: An answer to challenges

The Government is expected to adopt three packages of measures connected with high energy prices in the economy next week. This was announced by Prime Minister Robert Golob following a meeting with representatives of the business community. He asserted that he would try to coordinate the comments and proposals made by Slovenian businesses today with the European Commission. The EU will be more or less secure in terms of energy this winter, but there is more uncertainty regarding the following year, emphasised the businesspeople. Meanwhile, European countries have still not reached consensus regarding the mechanism to limit the high prices of gas. Fifteen member states, including Slovenia, are very critical of the latest proposal made by the European Commission. According to the Minister of Infrastructure, Bojan Kumer, the proposed mechanism to limit the price of natural gas will have to be concretely amended.

The Slovenian Book Fair – now in its 38th year and bearing the slogan I Read the World – is marked by Slovenia’s upcoming status as guest of honour at the world’s largest book fair in Frankfurt, where Slovenian literature and culture will be in the spotlight next year. Books enable intergenerational solidarity, provide access to new worlds, open up new times and connect people. In times when the future seems uncertain, it is perhaps all the more important that we delve into a book from time to time, as they can often provide answers to the challenges we are facing.
