Slovenia at Expo 2020: Green and Smart Experience

With the long-awaited opening of Expo2020, Dubai seems to be where we should be at the moment. And it's also where you will "meet" Slovenia. Slovenia is represented in Dubai with the motto "Slovenia. Green and Smart Experience", which will highlight the sustainable, modern and creative side of our character. It addresses the global public with stories that speak of the unique intertwining of pristine nature, knowledge, innovation and a pioneering economy.

And Slovenia is not bored these days either, as the EU Council Presidency is in full swing. The EU-Western Balkans Summit will take place here on 6 October, but as you will read below, intensive work is also underway in other areas.

    The first half of the Slovenian Presidency has been marked by a wide range of events in Europe and beyond. After three months of work, the first results are already visible, in particular in the areas of strengthening the EU’s resilience, recovery and strategic autonomy, making the EU more secure and engaged in the world, and the EU’s contribution to the Conference on the Future of Europe.

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar addressed the participants of the Western Balkans Speakers' Meeting at Brdo pri Kranju as part of the parliamentary dimension of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. “The enlargement policy has a transforming power and is a prerequisite for a stable, secure and democratic Europe,” declared Minister Logar in his introductory speech.

    On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Minister Zdravko Počivalšek expresses optimism about the recovery of Slovenian and world tourism as well. As he says, tourism is an extremely flexible ecosystem and it will react and transform in line with the current situation. He also believes that Slovenia has everything it takes to become one of the most desirable tourist destinations.

    The long-awaited Expo 2020, hosted for the first time by one of the Arab countries, starts on 30 September with a ceremony and a number of recognisable attendees. The eyes of the domestic and world public are on Dubai, where Slovenia will also be presenting itself between 1 October and 31 March of next year. With a pavilion in the sustainable segment of the exhibition, it tells the world the story of a green and smart country in the heart of Europe.
