Slovenia Weekly: Heat wave

With the heat wave we are experiencing these days, we rightly long for a peaceful rest by the water.

But from a June full of celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of Slovenia's independence, we've jumped quickly into an intense July, and have already completed the first events of the six-month EU Council Presidency. In the coming months, we will continue to keep you updated on a weekly basis with this newsletter on what is happening under the Slovenian Presidency, and of course we will not forget to provide you with information that might be useful to you when you decide to spend your holidays with us - especially in relation to the epidemic.

As elsewhere in Europe, the covid-19 epidemic is gaining momentum in Slovenia due to the spread of the delta variant. The key question this summer should therefore not be where you are going on holiday, but - have you been vaccinated?

But until the whole world is vaccinated, we will not return to normal life. According to the WHO, Africa alone would need 600 million doses of vaccine by the end of 2021. The 250,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine that Slovenia gave free of charge to Egypt yesterday as humanitarian aid are a tiny drop in the ocean, but for at least 125,000 individuals, they could be life-saving.
