  • State Secretary Grašič at a quadrilateral meeting in Switzerland on a unified European response to global crises

    State Secretary Neva Grašič participated in the annual quadrilateral meeting held in Fribourg, Switzerland, on 19 May 2026. Bringing together Slovenia, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland at the level of deputy foreign ministers, the meeting was hosted by Swiss State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Alexandre Fasel.

  • Director-General Rakovec at a round table on IHL in humanitarian crises

    Dr Marko Rakovec, Director-General and Chief Legal Adviser at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, participated in a round table entitled Frontiers of Humanity: International Humanitarian Law in Contemporary Humanitarian Crises, which accompanied the exhibition Dialogues on Humanity. The event was organised by the Faculty of Law, Ljubljana University, in cooperation with the Embassy of Switzerland in Ljubljana.

    State Secretary Neva Grašič took part in the regular annual quadrilateral meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Slovenia, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, held in Vaduz. This regional format has been in place since 2011.

  • Progress of the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law

    Together with Costa Rica, Switzerland and the International Committee of the Red Cross, Slovenia organised a high-level event to launch the progress report on the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law. The Initiative brings together 91 countries with the aim of strengthening respect for international humanitarian law and humanity in modern armed conflicts.

  • Second Annual Meeting Under the Second Swiss Contribution

    The second annual meeting under the second Swiss contribution took place on Wednesday, 14 May 2025. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy, the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development, the Budget Supervision Office and the Ministry of Finance.

  • Minister Han and Swiss Federal Councillor Parmelin on strengthening economic cooperation

    Minister Matjaž Han hosted Swiss Federal Councillor and Minister of Economic Affairs Guy Parmelin in Ljubljana to discuss ways to enhance economic cooperation between Slovenia and Switzerland. The talks focused on deepening collaboration in key sectors, particularly the pharmaceutical industry and the space sector. During the meeting, they also signed the Support Measure Agreement under the second Swiss Contribution.

  • Swiss contribution of over EUR 16 million in decarbonisation investments in Slovenia

    Ministers Kumer and Jevšek signed a Support Measure Implementation Agreement under the Swiss-Slovenian Cooperation Programme. The Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy will direct funding towards agri-photovoltaic pilot projects, the digitalisation of local energy concepts, investments in energy communities and the replacement of fossil fuels with shallow geothermal energy in the heating sector.

    The Ukraine Mine Action Conference UMAC2024 is taking place today and tomorrow in Lausanne under the auspices of the Swiss and Ukrainian governments. The event, opened by Swiss President Viola Amherd and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, brings together high-level representatives from governments, international organisations and experts from around the world to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian mine action.

  • Minister Jevšek: The signing of the Agreement is the first step to the conservation of the Alpine ecosystem

    Minister Dr Jevšek and Federal Councillor for Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Dr Ignazio Cassis signed today in Ljubljana the Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Swiss Federal Council on the implementation of the second Swiss Contribution to reduce economic and social disparities in the European Union. Slovenia is eligible to 16 million Swiss Franks under the second Swiss Contribution.

  • Swiss Contribution to reduce economic and social disparities in the European Union

    The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has adopted the initiative to conclude the Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Swiss Federal Council on the implementation of the second Swiss Contribution to selected member states of the European Union to reduce economic and social disparities in the European Union. Minister of Cohesion and Regional Development Dr Aleksander Jevšek has been authorised by Slovenian Government to sign the Framework Agreement.

  • Meeting of legal advisers as part of the quadrilateral meeting between Slovenia, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland

    In the framework of the quadrilateral meeting between Slovenia, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, Acting Director-General of the Directorate for International Law and Protection of Interests, Dr Marko Rakovec, hosted the meeting of legal advisers. This was the first meeting at the level of legal advisers in the quadrilateral format, which has been held at deputy foreign ministers level since 2011.

    State Secretary Marko Štucin hosted the traditional meeting between Slovenia, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland at the level of deputy foreign ministers. Their discussions focused on the current challenges in the region, the fallout from the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Western Balkans.

  • Slovenia in the UN Human Rights Council addresses the rights of older persons, healthy environment and human rights education

    The Geneva-based United Nations Human Rights Council concludes its 51st regular session today. Between 12 September and 7 October 2022, the central body of the UN in the field of human rights addressed the most pressing human rights situations around the world and adopted a number of thematic resolutions. At the meeting, Slovenia presented two initiatives in cooperation with partner countries, an initiative on the human rights of older persons and a resolution on human rights education. Slovenian expert Dr Sancin was elected to the Advisory Committee of the Council.

  • Opening of the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council

    The 51st regular session of the Human Rights Council opens today in Geneva. Slovenia will actively participate in the discussions and negotiations on the initiatives and will also table a resolution on a global agenda for human rights education on behalf of its regional group. Together with Argentina and Brazil, Slovenia will also propose extending the mandate of the UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons.

    State Secretary Gašper Dovžan took part in a Quadrilaterale meeting between Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Slovenia in Bern at the invitation of State Secretary at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Livia Leu.
