For a long time, it was believed that young people were not interested in politics and that the younger generation had shied away from taking responsibility for the future of its own country. This is no longer the case. Young people in Slovenia are becoming increasingly active and willing to participate in decisions about their future.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for an ITI-funded project aiming to improve walking and cycling infrastructure. The project will receive over €1.3 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project National cycling connection R10 Ljubgojna-Vrzdenec. The project will receive over €1 million from the Cohesion Fund.

The Slovenian Infrastructure Agency, together with the Municipalities of Kranjska Gora and Bovec, is introducing new traffic arrangements at the Vršič Pass to make visits to the area safer and more orderly, improve traffic flow and better protect the sensitive natural environment, particularly during the tourist season.

The JP SUB-EV26 public call for electric vehicle purchase incentives will close soon, as the available funding is close to being fully committed. As the scheme is funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, which assumed responsibility for the programme following the reorganisation of the Slovenian state administration (previously under the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy), we would like to provide additional information on its financing.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for two street redevelopment projects in Celje and Murska Sobota. The projects aim to promote safer, more equitable and more sustainable city streets, while encouraging walking and cycling. The European Regional Development Fund will contribute €3.29 million to the projects.

The Archivalia of the Month section features the Archivalia of the month of August, which is dedicated to the the Earliest Preserved Map in Slovenian Archival Institutions. It is an important source for the study of historical geography of the region between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea in the second half of the 16th century.

The Archives of the Republic of Slovenia holds approximately 3,200 items in its cartographic collection. We are especially proud to be the custodians of what is believed to be the oldest map preserved in any Slovenian archival institutions. The map was compiled by Joannes Sambucus and was first published in the 1573 Latin edition of Abraham Ortelius’ atlas. It is an important source for the study of historical geography of the region between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea in the second half of the 16th century.

Prime Minister Janez Janša, together with the leaders of 21 other European countries, has sent a letter to the President of the European Council, António Costa, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, calling for an immediate and coordinated European response to the escalating migration situation in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
