The glacier below Slovenia's highest peak, Mt Triglav, has been reduced to patches of ice and is on the verge of disappearing. Based on observations at the end of August, researchers say it is highly likely that its last remnants will disappear by the end of this year's melting season.

State Secretary Rok Šimenc participated in the 6th international development conference Welcome Future – Cities in Motion which was held in Velenje. The conference brough together representatives of local governments and business community, researchers and academics as well as representatives of national and EU institutions to discuss ways to unlock new development opportunities for cities undergoing economic, energy and social transformation.

Initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, the International Space Summit brought together representatives of governments, international organisations, space agencies, academia and industry to discuss the future of the space sector and its role in addressing technological, economic, security and environmental challenges. Minister Anže Logar also attended the Summit.

Tone Kajzer, the Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, hosted Gideon Sa'ar, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs. This is the first visit to Slovenia by an Israeli foreign minister at this level in 16 years and reflects a renewed impetus for political and economic cooperation. The two ministers also signed the 2026–2030 Programme of Cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, youth and sport.

Minister Dr Monika Kirbiš Rojs and State Secretary Rok Šimenc attended the 12th regular meeting of the Development Council of the Zahodna Slovenija Cohesion Region today at the Rog Centre in Ljubljana. Council members discussed implementing the Agreements on the Development of Regions for 2021-2027, future directions for regional development, and preparations for the new 2028-2034 funding period.

The Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Borut Rončević, announced a comprehensive reform of the Slovenian education system during the presentation of the results of the PISA 2025 international survey. Fifteen-year-olds in Slovenia achieved their worst results in all three domains assessed – reading, mathematical and scientific literacy – since Slovenia has become a PISA participant.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Arrangement of the Ljubljanska ulica Street in Maribor. The investment will improve the conditions for sustainable mobility and enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. The project will receive €1.74 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

Prime Minister Janez Janša today hosted European Council President António Costa at Brdo pri Kranju. The main topic of discussion was the European Union's next multiannual financial framework.

Tone Kajzer, the Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, hosted a visit by his Croatian counterpart, Gordan Grlić Radman. The two ministers reaffirmed the close and friendly relations between the two countries and expressed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation and gradually resolving any outstanding issues. At today’s session, the Government restored fairer conditions for awarding Zois scholarships, approved a proposal for amendments to the Excise Duty Act aimed at mitigating the impact of high energy prices on households and businesses, and concluded that Slovenia needs a more balanced and resilient energy policy.

Minister Tone Kajzer participated in an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Wicklow, Ireland. Hosted by the EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Minister for Defence, Helen McEntee, the meeting focused on Russian aggression against Ukraine, the strengthening of the EU’s external action and the situation in the Middle East.

Addressing the 21st Forum of Craft and Small Business organised by the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, Prime Minister Janez Janša said that the economy is one of the key factors underpinning Slovenia's stability and an important reason why the country has maintained a relatively high level of prosperity despite numerous upheavals.

Minister of health Tadej Ostrc attended the Bled Strategic Forum, where he participated in a roundtable discussion on the future of European health care systems and access to innovative medicines.

At the close of the 21st Bled Strategic Forum, Minister Tone Kajzer shared his thoughts: “This year's Forum was my first in this role, so I am particularly pleased that we were able to bring together in Bled such a wide range of political, business and academic leaders – people who actively help to shape the future through their work, rather than just reflecting on it.”

The Archivalia of the Month section features the Archivalia of the month of September, which is dedicated to the development of the institutionalized conservation-restoration service for archival records in Slovenia. The story dates back to 1956, when the foundations of this discipline were laid at the former Museum of the National Liberation in Ljubljana. Following its merger with the National Archives in 1980, the department developed into the country's central restoration workshop for paper and parchment.
