    Yesterday in Murska Sobota, the Minister of Culture, Asta Vrečko, ceremonially opened the European Museum of Roma Culture and History, which has begun operating at a new, more prominent location on Ulica Štefana Kovača.

  • European Commission issues positive preliminary assessment of Slovenia’s fifth payment request

    Today, the European Commission issued a positive preliminary assessment of Slovenia’s fifth payment request for funding under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) of NextGenerationEU. Slovenia is expected to receive the payment next month, estimated at EUR 230 million. Following the disbursement, the utilisation of the funds available to Slovenia under the Facility will exceed 80 per cent.

    Miki Muster – the Slovenian Walt Disney and His Animated Film Tovarna motornih koles Tomos (Tomos Motorcycle Factory)

    The legendary Miki Muster and his stories, comics, caricatures, and animated films left an indelible mark not only on Slovenian but also on the broader European landscape of illustration and animation. Preserved at the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia we keep seven of his animated films, among them Puščica (1960), Kurir Nejček (1961) and Zimska zgodba (1962), as well as his 1958 animated promotional film for the Tomos Factory, which is presented here as this month's archivalia.

    Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon hosted Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu in Ljubljana. They reviewed bilateral relations and discussed the future of the EU, including enlargement to the Western Balkans and the East, as well as the war in Ukraine. “Slovenia and Romania are linked by a strong partnership within the EU and NATO,” emphasised Minister Fajon.

    My Voice, My Choice, a Slovenian-led EU-wide campaign for safe and accessible abortion, scored a limited victory after the European Commission on 26 February refused to set up a special financial mechanism to expand abortion access in Europe but told member states they could use an existing fund to help women pay for abortion services.

    On February 25, 2026, Ambassador Mirošič hosted the Chair of the United States Commission for the Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America - America250, Rosie Rios, at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Washington, D.C., with whom he signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between Slovenia and the United States in support of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States and 35 years of Slovenia's independence.

    Government Visits Central Slovenia
