    The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia will be closed on 25 and 26 December 2026 in observance of Christmas Day and Independence Day.

    184th Regular Session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

    At today’s session, the Government adopted several draft acts, including draft acts on the Slovenian Press Agency, on the developmental restructuring of the Savinja–Šalek coal region, and on nursing and midwifery. Brigadier MSc Boštjan Močnik was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

  • Meeting of directors of regional consular crisis centres

    The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs organised a meeting in Ljubljana for directors of consular crisis centres from Slovenia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia. The meeting was held as part of a Slovenian initiative to strengthen cooperation between centres in the region, and was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces and the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief.

    To mark Human Rights Day, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon, in her capacity as President of the Security Council, chaired a discussion on the situation in Afghanistan. “Although human rights are universal, inalienable and indivisible, the situation on the ground is a stark reminder that their realisation remains a distant prospect, particularly for women and girls,” the Minister underlined.

    The first ever cross-border European Capital of Culture in Nova Gorica and Gorizia has ended as the title has been handed over to the cities' successors at a ceremony taking place in Europe Square - right on the border.

  • My Voice, My Choice initiative endorsed by EU Parliament committee again

    The European Parliament Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) endorsed on Monday the Slovenian-led citizens' initiative My Voice, My Choice for safe and accessible abortions. It already endorsed it in November but had to vote on it again due to a change in procedure.

    Government Visit to the Zasavje Region

    The Government visited the Zasavje region. In the morning, it held a regular session in Hrastnik, followed by separate programmes of individual ministers. In the afternoon, a consultation with mayors and business representatives on regional challenges took place in Zagorje.

  • 10th Anniversary International Day of Genocide Prevention

    In 2015, the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Armenia, passed a resolution establishing 9 December as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime. The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was one of the first treaties addressing respect for human rights and was adopted one day before the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on 10 December 1948. Commemoration and memorialisation efforts not only honour the victims and survivors of genocide, but also serve as effective mechanisms for the prevention of future genocides.

    183rd regular session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

    At today's session, the Government adopted the draft Employee Participation in Profit Sharing Act, which reduces administrative burdens, introduces fairer taxation and allows for greater employee participation in profit sharing. The Government also took note of the information on the implementation of long-term care.

  • Published call for proposals: €7.5 million for the revitalisation of abandoned buildings in border areas

    The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has published a call for proposals in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia for the revitalisation of public infrastructure facilities in border problem areas for 2026. With this call for proposals, worth a total of €7.5 million, Slovenia is addressing the issue of abandoned and dilapidated buildings that spoil the area’s appearance and no longer serve their purpose.

    On the first day of her December visit to New York, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon, as President of the Council, chaired a discussion on cooperation between the UN and the OSCE. She emphasised that the fundamental principles and commitments on which both organisations operate must apply equally to all, without exceptions or double standards.
