World Humanitarian Day
World Humanitarian Day, celebrated on 19 August, provides an opportunity to honour humanitarian workers and show solidarity with people around the world whose lives are affected by humanitarian crises. On 19 August 2003, 22 humanitarian workers were killed in a bomb attack in Iraq. Five years later, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 63/139, designating 19 August as World Humanitarian Day.

Prekmurje Incorporation and Reunification of Prekmurje Slovenians with the Mother Nation Day
To mark the national holiday commemorating the incorporation of Prekmurje and the reunification of the Prekmurje Slovenians with their mother nation, State Secretary Dr Stanislav Raščan attended the main ceremony in Velika Polana, which took place on the eve of the holiday. Prior to this, he attended a ceremony and wreath-laying at the monument to the national revivalist Jožef Klekl in Črenšovci.

EU funding for nature conservation at Lake Cerknica, in the Javorniki Mountains, on the Planinsko polje Plateau and along the Nanoščica River
The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Restoration and establishment of habitat types and improvement of habitats for selected species at Lake Cerknica, the Javorniki Mountains, the Planinsko polje Plateau and Nanoščica, with the acronym REVITA 2. The project will receive just over €2.8 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the National Geographic Museum, organized a jazz concert on August 14, 2026 to mark the 35th anniversary of Slovenia and the 250th anniversary of the United States. The concert featured the Slavo Rican Assembly, led by Slovenian musician Jan Kus, presenting a blend of Slovenian, American, and Latin jazz. Ambassador Iztok Mirošič addressed the audience.

New parking spaces at the top of the Vršič Pass to be available from 1 September 2026
