1st regular session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia, headed by Janez Janša, met today at the inaugural session at which several key decisions were taken. The Government appointed the Deputy Prime Ministers and Janja Garvas as Secretary-General of the Government.

The Government Committee on State Regulation and Public Affairs, the Government Committee on the Economy and the Government Committee on Administrative Affairs and Appointments were also established. Several state secretaries were also appointed in ministries.

The Government also appointed Anže Logar, Minister of the Economy, Labour and Sport, and Jernej Vrtovec, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, as Deputy Prime Ministers.

Janja Garvas was appointed Secretary-General of the Government.

The Government will hold regular sessions on Thursdays and its working bodies will hold them on Tuesdays.

The Committee on State Organisation and Public Affairs will be led by the Minister of the Interior and Public Administration; the Committee on the Economy will be led by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy; and the Committee on Administrative Affairs and Appointments will be led by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth. The Housing Commission of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia will be led by the Minister of Agriculture.

The Government adopted decisions noting the cessation of office of the incumbent state secretaries.

Several state secretaries were appointed to support the prime minister and newly elected ministers. The Government appointed the following state secretaries:

  •  Vinko Gorenak as State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • Miha Kuhar as State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • Matej Kumerdej as State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • Zdravko Počivalšek as State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia; 
  • Igor Senčar as State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • Maja Hostnik Kališek as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance;
  • Peter Papež as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance; 
  • Kristina Šteblaj as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance;
  • Katja Koren as State Secretary in the Ministry of the Economy, Labour and Sport;
  • Štefan Kušar as State Secretary in the Ministry of the Economy, Labour and Sport;
  • Franc Kangler as State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior and Public Administration;
  • Božo Predalič as State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior and Public Administration;
  • Mojca Škrinjar as State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth;

  • Helena Jaklitsch as State Secretary in the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad;
  • Boštjan Šefic as State Secretary in the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Post-Flood and Landslide Reconstruction;

The Government appointed Mateja Lekan-Štrukelj as Acting Director of the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Legislation until a new director is appointed, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government appointed Sebastjan Jeretič as Acting Director of the Communication Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia from 5 June 2026 until a new director is appointed, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government adopted decisions on the dismissal of secretaries-general in ministries and appointed the following acting secretaries-general:

  • Grega Kordež as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of the Economy, Labour and Sport;
  • Maja Čepin as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy;
  • Maja Kocjan as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth;
  • Vida Borovinšek as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning;
  • Andrej Grdiša as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of Demography, Family and Social Affairs;
  • Benedikt Jeranko as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of Agriculture;
  • Andreja R. Megušar as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of Culture;
  • Rok Zupančič as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development;
  • Tomaž Mlinarič as Acting Secretary-General in the Ministry of Defence;

The Government appointed Alenka Kajzer as Acting Director of the Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development.

The Government dismissed Andrej Fefer from the position of Director-General of the Intelligence and Security Service of the Ministry of Defence and appointed Gregor Majcen as Acting Director-General of the Intelligence and Security Service of the Ministry of Defence until a new director-general is appointed following the completion of the recruitment procedure, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government dismissed Mateja Rokvič from the position of Director-General of the Defence Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Defence and appointed Mark Doblekar as Acting Director-General of the Defence Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Defence from 5 June 2026 until a new director-general is appointed, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government dismissed Karmen Praprotnik from the position of Director of the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency and appointed Nejc Vesel as Acting Director from 5 June 2026 until a new director is appointed, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government dismissed Željko Kralj from the position of Director-General of the Logistics Directorate of the Ministry of Defence and issued a decision appointing Uroš Korošec as Acting Director-General from 5 June 2026 until a new director-general is appointed, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government dismissed Uroš Svete from the position of Director of the Government Information Security Office of the Republic of Slovenia and appointed Nik Gamulin as Acting Director until a new director is appointed following the completion of the recruitment procedure, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government dismissed Danica Gruden Polak from the position of Director of the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for National Minorities and appointed Gregor Perič as Acting Director until a new director is appointed, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

Boštjan Ključevšek was dismissed from the position of Acting Director-General of the Agriculture Directorate in the Ministry of Agriculture with effect from 4 June 2026. In his place, Andrej Hafner was appointed as Acting Director-General of the Agriculture Directorate in the Ministry of Agriculture until a new director-general is appointed following the completion of the recruitment procedure, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government dismissed Gregor Meterc from the position of Director-General of the Forestry and Hunting Directorate in the Ministry of Agriculture with effect from today. In his place, Simon Resman was appointed as Acting Director-General until a new director-general is appointed following the completion of the recruitment procedure, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

As of today, Ana Le Marechal Kolar was dismissed from the position of Director-General of the Food and Fisheries Directorate in the Ministry of Agriculture. It appointed Suzana Lara Kraus as Acting Director, until a new director-general is appointed following the completion of the recruitment procedure, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government granted consent to Borut Rončević, Minister of Education, Science and Youth, to carry out research work at the public research institute Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto for up to eight hours of secondary employment per week, with effect from his appointment.

The Government approved a proposal to recall Tamara Weingerl Požar from her post as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus, resident in Athens, with effect from 16 June 2026, and submitted the proposal to the President of the Republic of Slovenia. 

The Government approved a proposal to recall Gašper Dovžan from his post as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Croatia, with effect from 11 June 2026, and submitted the proposal to the President of the Republic of Slovenia.

The Government approved a proposal to recall Stanislav Raščan from his post as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to the Slovak Republic, with effect from 4 June 2026, and submitted the proposal to the President of the Republic of Slovenia. 

The Government approved a proposal to recall Mihael Zupančič from his post as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to the Kingdom of Denmark, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Republic of Finland, the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Iceland, resident in Copenhagen, with effect from 3 June 2026, and submitted the proposal to the President of the Republic of Slovenia.

With effect from today, the Government dismissed the following members of the Supervisory Board of ELES d.o.o., transmission system operator: Andrej Ribič, David Skornšek, Denis Kostrevc and Damjan Matičič. At the same time, the Government appointed the following persons as members of the Supervisory Board of ELES d.o.o. for a five-year term commencing on 5 June 2026:

  • Peter Žmak,
  • Žarko Furman,
  • Aleš Logar,
  • Saša Kundih.

The Government dismissed the following members of the Supervisory Board of BORZEN, d.o.o., electricity market operator: Mojca Veljkovič, Ivana Nedižavec Korada, Hinko Šolinec. At the same time, it appointed the following persons as members of the Supervisory Board for a five-year term commencing on 5 June 2026:

  •     Andrej Vizjak,
  •     Silvo Sok,
  •     Damjan Stanek.

The Government dismissed Damjan Petrič from the position of Director-General of the Police in the Ministry of the Interior and appointed Danijel Lorbek as Acting Director-General of the Police in the Ministry of the Interior and Public Administration with effect from 5 June 2026, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.

The Government dismissed Joško Kadivnik from the position of Director of the Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency and appointed Janez Stušek as Director of the Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency for a five-year term commencing on 5 June 2026 and ending on 4 June 2031, with the possibility of reappointment.

The Government dismissed Peter Grum from the position of Director-General of the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (FURS) with effect from 4 June 2026 and appointed Janko Preac as Acting Director-General with effect from 5 June 2026 until a new director is appointed, but for no longer than six months, i.e. until 4 December 2026 at the latest.
