€45 million in EU funding for the third development axis – construction of a new expressway in Koroška region
The project will be led by DARS d.d., Motorway Company of the Republic of Slovenia. As part of it, a new expressway of the third development axis will be constructed, more precisely, section 2 between Velenje and Slovenj Gradec, lot B Škalsko Lake and lot H Konovo. The project is expected to significantly shorten travel times, improve road safety, minimise environmental impact and help boost the development of Koroška region.
’’Third development axis is of vital importance for the people of Koroška as it will connect them to regional hubs and the motorway network. At the same time, it is urgently needed to boost the development of Koroška region and promote the economic and social cohesion of regions. This project is thus key for balanced regional development, and I am glad we were able to make it part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 and secure funding for it. This was made possible after the programme amendment adopted in late February,’’ said Minister Jevšek.
The project will be implemented as part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 under priority Sustainable (cross-)regional mobility and connectivity. It will pursue specific objective Developing and enhancing sustainable, climate resilient, intelligent and intermodal national, regional and local mobility, including improved access to TEN-T and cross-border mobility.
The €70,301,546 project will receive nearly €45 million, more precisely, €44,851,521.96 from the European Regional Development Fund.
