The Government is continuing its preparation of the 2026 and 2027 budget documents. The two draft budgets follow the medium-term objective of public debt sustainability and keeping the general government deficit below 3% of gross domestic product. The 2026 budget expenditure is projected to reach EUR 17.5 billion, a EUR 380 million increase on the budget already adopted for that year. Expenditure for 2027 is planned to reach EUR 17.86 billion. EU funding from the 2021–2027 Multiannual Financial Framework and the Recovery and Resilience Plan will play a key role in supporting the implementation of the planned measures.

In addition to the funding allocated in the breakdown, the proposers of financial plans have at their disposal the budgetary fund resources to implement their respective projects. The primary source of funding for post-flood recovery in 2026 and 2027 will be the Fund for the Reconstruction of Slovenia.

Based on the breakdown adopted today, the proposers of financial plans will have the obligation to draw up their respective financial plans in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance by 15 August 2025. While amendments may still be made to the budget section relating to EU funding, the overall expenditure ceiling will remain unchanged.

The Government will approve the final version of the budget documents in September and submit them to the National Assembly by no later than 1 October 2025.
