Three years into the Government's term, most of the development challenges have been met

In his opening remarks at a press conference, Prime Minister Golob explained: "When we set out on our common path three years ago, the situation in the country was extremely challenging and the path we chose was not an easy one. Today we can proudly say that we have laid a sound foundation for Slovenia on which we can build a better future." He thanked the coalition partners for their cooperation and commitment to shared values. "We do not always agree on every issue, nor do we expect to," he stressed, adding that different opinions enrich us, and the coalition has always demonstrated unity in the most difficult moments or when the public interest was at stake.

Prime Minister Golob said that the Government had pursued solutions by engaging in dialogue with a very broad range of stakeholders. "We are committed to social dialogue, addressing the most difficult challenges with all stakeholders in society in order to find solutions that are the most balanced and therefore the best in the long run," he pointed out. That is why it took a little longer, but today, three years later, most of the development challenges have been met and that is what counts most, said the Prime Minister.

He added that Slovenia is more resilient today, mainly because security does not mean more weapons. On the contrary, security is primarily conditioned by the competitiveness of the country, the economy and society.

We are committed to strengthening the public health and education systems. Strong social systems, support systems, are the foundations that make Slovenia different from its European neighbours. "Because we are building a society of solidarity. I am proud of that," said the Prime Minister. "Yesterday in the Ljubljana University Medical Centre, I had the opportunity to see for myself the strong public health system that delivers the most complex surgeries, such as heart transplants. These surgeries are accessible to everyone in Slovenia. Access to the most complex surgeries in Slovenia is at the highest level in the world," he stressed.

The pay reform is also aimed, among other things, at teachers, their dedication and care for children. It is important that we, as a society, know how to care for the ageing population, show them respect and ensure that they can maintain their human dignity. Home care will no longer rest solely on the shoulders of family members; instead, the state will step in to help.

"As a coalition, we have the commitment and responsibility to offer a vision that extends beyond this term, into the next one. To offer a vision of a modern welfare state based on the inclusion and empowerment of all citizens," concluded Prime Minister Golob.

This Government engages in dialogue

Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport Matjaž Han expressed his satisfaction with the work of the last three years. He stressed that it has not been easy, as this Government has faced two crises, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. The Government has successfully managed both the cost-of-living crisis and the energy crisis, supporting businesses and households in the process.

Minister Han pointed out: "No government will be successful if it forgets the people, and this Government has not forgotten them. I believe that we cannot find the right solutions on our own, but only through the joint efforts of those who work, those who create, and those who make political decisions. This Government does not just talk about dialogue – it engages in it. That is why it is sometimes more difficult to take a decision because it requires compromise, but the compromise reached between the social partners is crucial for the development of our country and for trust in it."

One billion euros for housing over the next ten years is a historic achievement for this Government.

Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko is convinced that people in Slovenia live better today than they did three years ago. "There have been many compromises, discussions, different opinions and views on how to find common solutions, but the commitment to finding these solutions has always been fulfilled. Compromise is the cornerstone of democracy, and it is what drives us forward."

She underlined that the Government has decisively tackled challenges that had remained unresolved for 30 years. "We have often encountered opposition. But the goal has always remained – to move things forward and for the better, for the benefit of the people." If I mention just the housing issue — together with the Ministry of a Solidarity-Based Future and the entire Government, we have taken a forward-looking approach to this challenge that extends beyond our current term. These are issues that cannot be fully resolved within one term of office. Because they do not offer immediate political gains, they were left unaddressed. But the time has finally come to tackle them. We approached them constructively and found solutions. One billion euros for housing in Slovenia over the next ten years — this alone is a historic achievement for this Government," said Minister Vrečko.
