Warning about misleading and unusual online news websites
To begin with, the websites contain a mixture of news items in many different languages. The articles feature sensationalist clickbait headlines, the language is unusual, and even a brief reading raises suspicion that the content has been machine-translated or automatically generated. The texts are highly unusual: they mention numerous political actors from Slovenia, including Prime Minister Robert Golob and President of the Republic Nataša Pirc Musar, yet the events and other details described are entirely fabricated and have no basis in reality. For example, one article claims that Prime Minister Golob died in an accident, that he ordered the demolition of the presidential residence (which Slovenia does not have), and similar false claims.
Do not share false or misleading content
Although there is currently no evidence that news from these websites has begun circulating widely online in Slovenia, advertisements with similar shocking headlines often appear and act as clickbait, encouraging readers to invest in various cryptocurrency schemes.
The Government calls on all internet and social media users to exercise caution: do not trust or share content that appears false or misleading. Before sharing a post, verify its credibility and ask yourself whether it could be true. Likewise, do not fall for promises of extremely high and easy earnings.
The Government has also prepared guidelines and advice to help recognise false news.
